Photo Essay: On Location in Chamonix

When we venture on our location shoots, we tend to seek out unfamiliar locales rife with opportunities for exploration, adventure, and—of course—a great photo. For Fall/Winter '17, we landed on Chamonix, France, as the dramatic setting for our upcoming collection. We traveled from Switzerland to France to Italy, scouting far and wide for the best locations to shoot.

Eventually we landed on a few locales for the several-day shoot, including the accessible-by-train Mer de Glace, France's largest glacier which sits at 4,900 feet. There, we were greeted with jaw-dropping views of the snow-covered Mont Blanc massif as well as an ice cave built out of a crevasse in the landscape. And no Chamonix adventure is complete without a visit to the world-famous Aiguille du Midi, the highest peak served by a lift system. Two cable car rides drop you at approximately 12,500 feet where you can take in the sights of the French, Swiss, and Italian Alps and a clear view of Mont Blanc. Beyond Chamonix, we made our way to nearby Megève's tiny airport where we saw the sites from the seat of a helicopter. All of these locations made for spectacular backdrops against which to test and shoot our clothes.
