Artist, architect, activist, and outspoken social critic, Ai WeiWei‘s latest work is on display at Taipei Fine Arts Museum in Taiwan. 1200 bicycles from Shanghai Forever Co. were used to make this extraordinary abstract array that towers a staggering 100 feet tall. The seats and handlebars have been removed to allow for the attachment of other bikes which extends the structure upwards. As a collective, it looks as if somebody has copied/pasted an image of a bicycle 1200 times. The project contains 20 other works by Ai and is entitled “Absent”. After Ai’s sudden imprisonment by the Chinese government earlier this year his ability to travel has been restricted and thus cannot attend the exhibit himself.
